God het jou sekere verhoudings, vermoëns, ervarings en eienskappe gegee wat Hy wil hê jy moet gebruik om sy doelwitte te vervul. Hy het ‘n skoonheidskompetisie gebruik om Ester as koningin van Persië te posisioneer om die volksmoord van die Jode te keer. Hy het Nehemia se ywer as die koning se skinker gebruik om hom vir koninklike guns te posisioneer, wat tot die herbouing van die mure van Jerusalem gelei het. Hy het Dawid se musikale vermoëns gebruik om hom toegang tot die koning van Israel te gee. Hy het Josef se gevangenisskap en sy vermoë om drome te interpreteer gebruik om twee nasies van hongersnood te red. Hy het die ywer van ‘n massamoordenaar genaamd Saulus van Tarsus gebruik om die evangelie via drie sendingsreise te versprei, terwyl hy die helfte van die Nuwe Testament geskryf het. As God hulle gebruik het, sal Hy jou ook gebruik. Hy wíl jou gebruik. Hy ontwikkel talente binne in jou wat sy koninkryksdoelwitte op maniere waarvan jy op die oomblik onbewus is, sal dien. Dit mag dalk jou God-gegewe atletiese vermoëns of jou musikale talente wees wat God gebruik om jou ‘n platform te gee om Hom te eer. Dit mag dalk jou kreatiwiteit wees. Dit mag jou uniekheid wees. Dit kan jou goeie werksetiek wees. Maak nie saak wat dit is nie, dis ‘n gawe van God wat vir God gebruik moet word. Sukses beteken om jou beste te doen, met dit wat jy het, waar jy is. Dit is nie op omstandighede, rykdom, krag of verhoë gebaseer nie. Dis nie op ervarings in die verlede of toekomstige potensiaal gebaseer nie. Dis om diensbaar in elke geleentheid, op elke manier, elke dag te wees. Gebruik dus vandag wat God vir jou gegee het.

God has given you certain relationships, skills, experiences, and attributes that He wants you to use to fulfill His purposes. He used a beauty pageant to position Esther as Queen of Persia and stop the genocide of the Jews. He used Nehemiah’s diligence as the king’s cupbearer to position him for royal favor that would parlay into rebuilding the wall of Jerusalem. He used David’s musical ability to give him access to the king of Israel. He used Joseph’s imprisonment and his ability to interpret dreams to save two nations from famine. He used the zeal of a mass murderer named Saul of Tarsus to spread the gospel via three missionary journeys while writing half the New Testament. And if God used them, He will use you too. And He wants to. In fact, He’s cultivating talents within you that will serve His kingdom purposes in ways you are unaware of right now. It may be your God-given athletic abilities or music proclivity that God uses to give you a platform to give Him praise. It may be your creative genius. It may be your idiosyncrasy. It could just be your good old-fashioned work ethic. No matter what it is, it’s a gift from God that is to be used for God. Success is doing the best you can, with what you have, where you are. It’s not based on circumstances, wealth, power, or platform. It’s not based on past experience or future potential. It’s stewarding every opportunity, in every way, every day. So today, use what God has given you.

In a small Wisconsin town on the southern shore of Lake Superior, the annual dogsled derby was about to begin. The racers were all children – from older boys with several dogs and big sleds, to one little boy who had only a small sled and a dog. On the signal, the sleds took off and the little fellow was soon so far behind that he hardly seemed to be in the race at all. Then about halfway through the race when the second-place team tried to move into first place, the sleds got too close and the dogs began to fight. As each of the other sleds in the race came upon the fight, more dogs got involved. The scene was soon one big seething knot of kids, sleds, and dogs. All thought of racing had vanished from the minds of the racers. However, the one little guy and his dog managed to skirt the others and went on to win the race. RightPath founder and business coach Jerry Mabe tells employers that when they hire managers, they should look out for “shiny object” people. Why? Because like children, they are easily distracted by other things and the job suffers under their watch. To succeed you must stay focused on what’s important, and pursue your goals without wavering or hesitating. Keep your eyes on the finish line, trusting God to help you. He will. His Word says so: “Because the Sovereign Lord helps me, I will not be disgraced. Therefore, I have set my face like a stone, determined to do his will. And I know that I will not be put to shame.”

In ‘n klein dorp op die suidelike oewer van Lake Superior in Wisconsin, was die jaarlikse hondeslee wedren op die punt om te begin. Die deelnemers was almal kinders – van ouer seuns met verskeie honde en groot sleë, tot een klein seuntjie met slegs ‘n klein slee en een hond. Op die teken, het die sleë weggespring en gou was die klein seuntjie so ver agter dat dit skaars gelyk het of hy deel van die resies was. Halfpad deur die resies, toe die span in die tweede plek probeer om die eerste span verby te steek, het die sleë te naby aan mekaar gekom en het die honde begin baklei. Soos elke slee op die toneel aangekom het, het meer honde betrokke geraak. Dit was gou ‘n warboel van kinders, sleë en honde. Alle gedagtes oor die wedren het verdwyn. Een klein outjie en sy hond het dit egter reggekry om die chaos te omseil en die wedren te wen. Die Right Path stigter en besigheidsafrigter, Jerry Mabe, sê vir werkgewers dat wanneer hulle bestuurders aanstel, hulle op die uitkyk moet wees vir mense wie se aandag maklik deur ander dinge afgelei word, omdat die werk dikwels onder hulle ly. Om sukses te behaal moet jy gefokus bly op dit wat belangrik is en jou doelwitte sonder aarseling najaag. Hou jou oë op die wenstreep en vertrou God om jou te help. Hy sal dit doen. Sy Woord sê so: ‘Ja, die Here help my, daarom kon die mense my nie verneder nie. Die Here help my, daarom het ek my gesig hard gemaak soos klip. Ek weet hulle sal my nie verneder nie.’
