Staan op en probeer weer

Jesaja 41:10 NLV

Vertel my daarvan.’

Get up and try again

Isaiah 41:10 NIV

To succeed in life you need two things: (1) The right people. Sometimes the first step toward getting out of discouragement is finding somebody who can lift you. Don’t be like the guy who was about to jump off a bridge when a policeman approached him and said, “Surely nothing could be that bad. Tell me about it.” When the guy got through talking – they both jumped! You may smile, but the company you keep will either lift you up or pull you down. Paul wrote, “God, who comforts the downcast, comforted us by the coming of Titus” (2 Corinthians 7:6 NIV). You need a Titus in your life, and you need to become a Titus to others. The Bible says, “Bear…one another’s burdens” (Galatians 6:2). (2) The right perspective. Over half of all salespeople fail because they don’t go back a second or third time. About 58 percent make one call and stop. Twenty-five percent make two calls and stop. Fifteen percent make three calls and stop. The 12 percent who go back again and again and again make 80 percent of all sales. That’s the group you belong in. Don’t settle for failure; get up and try again! God will work with you (See Philippians 1:6). Missionary and theologian E. Stanley Jones said, “When life kicks you, let it kick you forward.” Refuse to accept defeat. Remember, you’ll be rewarded for what you finished, not for what you started. Sometimes the last key on the ring is the one that opens the door, so ask God for the strength to keep persevering until you win!

Soek ‘n ware vriend

Spreuke 18:24 NLV

Onthou die ou Beatles liedjie: ‘When I was younger, so much younger than today, I never needed anybody’s help in any way…Help me if you can, I’m feeling down, and I do appreciate you being round. Help me get my feet back on the ground; won’t you please, please help me?’

Look for a true friend

Proverbs 18:24 MSG

One day two cows looked over a fence and saw these words on a passing milk truck: “Pasteurized, Homogenized, Vitamin A added.” One cow said to the other, “It makes you feel a bit inadequate, doesn’t it?” Seriously, is that how you feel today? There’s too much to do, and not enough of you to do it? Or you don’t think you have the skill or resources? Remember the old Beatles song: “When I was younger, so much younger than today, I never needed anybody’s help in any way…Help me if you can, I’m feeling down, and I do appreciate you being round. Help me get my feet back on the ground; won’t you please, please help me?” In a perfect world Adam still couldn’t make it by himself, so God said, “I will make a helper suitable for him” (Genesis 2:18 NIV). Sometimes the solution requires more than prayer or counseling; it requires a friend who understands – especially one who has fought the same battles and won. In Acts chapter three God used Peter and John to bring about the healing of a lame man sitting at the temple gate. But there was another miracle earlier that day. Peter had just denied Jesus, fallen flat on his face, and decided to return to his old fishing job. But John refused to let go of him. As a result, Peter was restored, a lame man was healed, and three thousand people were won to Christ. You don’t need a lot of people in your life; you just need the right people. So ask God for a “true friend” who will stick by you; then you do the same for someone else.

How to receive “a double portion”

2018-11-26
2 Kings 2:9 NKJV

In the Old Testament, “Elijah said to Elisha, ‘Ask! What may I do for you, before I am taken away from you?’ Elisha said, ‘Please let a double portion of your spirit be upon me.’ So he said, ‘You have asked a hard thing. Nevertheless, if you see me when I am taken from you, it shall be so'” (vv. 9-10 NKJV). Elisha received his “double portion,” and went on to perform twice as many miracles as his mentor Elijah. The key phrase here is: “If you see me when I am taken from you!” In other words, “Stay close to me and you can have it.” Notice the four places to which Elisha followed Elijah: (1) Gilgal. That’s where the Israelites were circumcised, which involves “cutting off the flesh” (See Joshua 5:8). You must be led by God’s Spirit and say no to your carnal nature – that’s “a hard thing” to do. (2) Bethel. That’s where Jacob had a heavenly vision (See Genesis 28:19). Unless you have a vision that’s born of God, you’ll drift aimlessly through life. (3) Jericho. That’s where Joshua had a face-to-face encounter with God and prayed, “What saith my Lord unto his servant?” (Joshua 5:14). It’s only when you surrender to God that you experience victory. (4) Jordan. Because the Jordan River flows into the Dead Sea, it represents death. So be prepared to attend your own burial – every day (See 1 Corinthians 15:31). Paul said, “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me” (Galatians 2:20 NIV). Do you want a double portion of God’s spirit? You can have it if you meet the conditions.
